Solutions by Design's workflow analyses allow us to quantify the benefits of our designs.
An example...The minimum distance walked to fill a prescription in a dispensary recently analyzed was 49ft ( 14.9 metres ) and the maximum was a whopping 86 feet ( 26.2 metres ) for an average distance walked of 67.5 feet ( 20.6 metres ). After redesigning the dispensary the maximum distance traveled to fill each prescription was reduced from 86 feet to 45 ( 26.2 metres to 13.7 meters ). A 48% reduction. The average distance traveled is now 33 feet ( 10.1 metres ).
Using 300 prescriptions per day, this reduction in average walking distance represents a saving of 715 miles / 1150 kilometers per year. Expressed as time-saved, this redesign gave back 13 work weeks of unproductive technician time. Additional information on the time-savings potential of more efficient walk patterns has been reported in The Efficient Pharmacy newsletter.
